Hi! My name is David; nice of you to visit.
I’m a dad (three little girls), have a much better better half, live in the suburbs of Toronto, and drive a minivan (of course). Pretty standard, but also pretty awesome. We have a really nice community around us, and see a fair bit of our extended family in the Toronto area.
I also have some hobbies that (I think) are pretty fun: I do a fair bit of sailing in the summer (out of Mooredale Sailing Club), I learned how to turn wood on a lathe within the last few years, and I play a fair bit of Texas Hold’em. I also read a lot.
On the “professional” side, I work for a growth stage equity investor. The company’s core work is to find and then win the right to invest in promising software businesses, and we generally get involved in the Series B or C stage. I work mostly on the “portfolio support” side. Specifically, I work with a team of super talented Machine Learning engineers and researchers to build AI/ML products in collaboration with our portfolio companies. You can find some pretty cool examples of AI/ML stuff our portcos have shipped here, here, here, and here. It’s an amazing privilege to work with them. I also semi-frequently teach a data viz course at Google for analysts and data scientists. If you’re interested in chatting about work, you can find me on LinkedIn.
I use this site to post photos, as well as quotes and occasional commentary based on what I am reading. Less frequently I’ll share some analysis or data visualization.
Other than the above, here are some categories that group the stuff I’ve posted here:
In the photo below I’m driving CAN 8238 during a Friday Night Race in Toronto, one of my favourite things to do.
